The superiority of the reader

"The death of the author" by Roland Bathers says the main person in any book or text is not the author or critic, but the reader.

In classic literature history, it was important for critics to validate their interpretation of the book by attaching it to the author's personality. By mixing authors with their pieces, critics were given powers to make the final and the only correct interpretation possible. That kind of interpretation makes no sense since anything is written might have multiple explanations - is it the author's experience, or character's thoughts, or it might be a common opinion in the time the writer lives, or it is common in the time and setting fictional character does? Variations of why things were written are endless. Of course experience of the author, the research, readen books and etc. influence the work, and another person would write the same story differently, but those relations are so complicated there is no point in searching up for them. Plus it rarely adds something to the piece and mostly limits the reader in their imagination and feelings.

It is also possible to write things without thinking, or with a group of people, and it will erase the author's personality from the final piece. The book still might or might not have any sense, but it will be impossible to attach it to the author himself. (This idea becomes even clearer nowadays because of the different AI's that are able to wright things. AI does not have any personal life or personality, and it would be impossible to connect piece and author when the author is not a human being).

Another thing to remember is language - every author is limited to the existing number of words and their meanings. Any language was created by people and people were influenced by their language - they were transforming each other. Anything that ever was or ever will be written might be explained by numberless historical events that led to the creation of a text. This explanation is as complicated and basically senseless to a reader as connections between the author and the book.

Every person has their own experience and will have different interpretations based on their own lives. Readers have their personal relations with the same book. By focusing on the author behind the book people actually put the book aside, and limit readers in their feelings about written texts.
