“Trapped by School” is an artwork made by Destiny Blue, an artist from the UK who mostly make digital drawings. On the piece of art, we could see the girl sitting on the desk in front of the board. The clothes and surroundings make us think she is a student sitting in the school. The name of the art piece proves this suggestion.
Her face is sad, the pose is closed, and there is a bird’s cage drawn on the board behind her. The chalk in girl’s hand shows us she drew it on her own. But why should she trap herself? It is obvious for me the school environment forced her to. The school gave the material and the conditions, and the war was too hard for her, so she just gave up. Trapped herself in rules making no sense in grey and dull school uniform. As grey as the school walls and the atmosphere is. In spending the whole day while doing some useless and hard work she never chose and spending time with people she never liked finding herself alone at the end of the day.
There is the light behind the scene, a window with the whole world behind but she doesn’t look in it, doesn’t see it. She doesn’t know about the world full of art, ideas, inspiration, and freedom. Or she does but knows she has no time and ability to visit it and sees no sense in useless dreams. Of course, there is still some light coming into her everyday life but yet she is trying to close herself from it and to create her own piece of pink-tinted freedom, being inside the system.
Taking more about the pink light we should mention that the sun rays are coming from the sunset. So it is the end of the day. There is no much time between the sunset and dark evening but during this time of ability to have some creative freedom, the girl sits in the school having no time to use it. Maybe some of the sunrays are her parents or friends, but she has homework and then the night comes too fast. So she is forced to ignore the pure light.
Nevertheless, she still has the shine inside herself. She can add something new and beautiful in school life. She can discover some useful knowledge in books she hides and read during the lessons. She can develop her art skill making drawings instead of conspectus. She can share it with others to find someone who knows about the bird’s cage they are all in. And she can use this light to fight with the system of unfair priorities. The system saying there is no place for a different way of thinking. The system saying math and history are more important than drawing and music.
She can do much. She just doesn’t know yet. But the light is there and one day she would understand how much power she truly has.
